How do you define real friendships?
A Proverb said; A real friend is someone sticking closer than a brother.
That is the kind of friend you want. Its a challenge though;
Thanks to technology, you can connect with more people - and do so conveniently - than at any other time in history. Still, these relationships you have might seem rather shallow. They could simply just sizzle out, whereas the older generation has friends they had been close to for decades! So why is it such a challenge these days to enjoy enduring and meaningful friendships?
Texting, social networking, and other social media have made it seem possible to maintain a friendship without being in someone's presence. Meaningful conversation has been replaced by rapid-fire text and tweets. People are having fewer face-to-face interaction. People spend more time in front of a screen and less time with each other. Social media does help you keep in touch with people and thereby strengthening your friendship, especially if you also have an off line relationship with those people. Often, however, social media merely build bridges to others without drawing you any closer to them.
Ask yourself; "Which of my online contacts display the qualities that I value in a friendship?
And which qualities would those friends say I bring to the friendship? On line friendships are often based on a shared interest, such as a hobby. However, having common values is more important than having similar interest. " I may not have a lot of friends, but the ones I do have make me want to be a better person". It is so much better going out and meet people. There is nothing quite the same as face-to-face conversation, where you and another person can observe the subtle nuances of voice tone, facial expressions, and body language. Real friendship is more than just keeping in touch. It requires that you and your friend display love, empathy, patience and forgiveness. Those are the qualities that ultimately make a friendship rewarding. But they are difficult to display if you only talk on line! People who takes us in account, warm our hearts and make our days worthwhile.
